According to an article published on February 21st by The Middle Market Report, “Busy by the Beach: Orange County Has Become a Destination for Law Firms,” Orange County used to be home to smaller homegrown law firms but has since become a popular destination for midsize and larger firms looking to attract work from the technology, health sciences and real estate industries by the beach. Orange County has a booming economy with a low unemployment rate and a higher job rate compared to most places. Bruce Feuchter, a shareholder in Stradling’s Corporate practice group and a member of the Board of Directors was quoted in the article stating that OC is home to “prime players in the surf industry” and is the “leader in ophthalmology technology.” Midsized firms in OC, such as Stradling and others quoted in the article, are not concerned with being pushed out by the larger firms. Midsized firms, with their flexible structure and pricing advantage, are able to take on “both smaller and middle-market deal work, and big-ticket litigation and the bet-the-company matters.” Despite the increased interest in Orange County, “it’s more difficult to get the right talent than it is in Los Angeles,” said Feuchter.
