Mid-Market Report
January 2019

The Mid-Market Report published a Q&A with Newport Beach-based John Cannon, chair of Stradling’s litigation practice group, about the firm and how law firms are changing as a business model. When asked about how law firms can foster the next generation of legal talent, Cannon referenced the launch of Stradling’s associate business development training program to support the associates’ career growth as well as the fact that Stradling “associates get substantive experience on deals and cases and exposure to client at the outset of their careers, something that is becoming increasingly rare in many of the larger firms.” Cannon also stressed that the firm provides “a real opportunity to become a partner and have a practice for the long run.” When asked about the firm’s succession plan, Cannon remarked that “The firm is over 45 years old and has evolved past its founder generations. Each generation is expected to leave the firm better than he or she came to it and to pass the baton for the next generation to fulfill the same promise.”
