| Stradling Adds Shareholder to Chair Corporate Tax Practice |

(Newport Beach) Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth, Southern California’s premier law firm, is pleased to announce the addition of Shahzad A. Malik as shareholder and chair of the firm’s tax department. Mr. Malik joins Stradling with significant experience in all areas of tax matters including mergers and acquisitions, private equity and hedge fund formations and transactions, tax controversy, and international taxation. He has worked on many complex large and mid-market transactions, including several multi-billion dollar transactions, which will undoubtedly complement Stradling’s corporate transactional department. Mr. Malik has represented a vast array of private equity firms, hedge funds, venture capital funds, and distressed debt funds over the years. In addition, he has represented a myriad of companies involved in global transactions, including those in Canada, India, and China. Bruce Feuchter, a senior corporate shareholder who led the firm's search committee to hire a new tax department head, said: “We are excited to have found Mr. Malik and delighted that he quickly identified the opportunities that our firm and platform present him,” Mr. Feuchter said. “He is the perfect fit to lead our firm’s corporate tax practice as well as our other entity practices.” Mr. Malik started his legal career in Canada. Following the completion of his L.L.M degree from New York University School of Law, he went on to work at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP and was then a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP for many years. More recently, he was a shareholder at TroyGould PC in Los Angeles. In addition to his tax practice, Mr. Malik has published extensively in the tax, private equity and venture capital areas. He is a featured expert commentator for Lexis Nexis and is the publisher and principal contributor of the Private Equity Tax Blog, which features commentaries on current domestic and international tax topics relevant to senior business executives, generally with an emphasis on the private equity and venture capital industries.
